- Here is another suggestion off of the subject. I figured that it should
- go here since you guys are the primary force working with the DSP at the
- moment. I think that the Falcon MK-X should be configured to contain a
- 100meg or 1gig Zip Drive and a 4 or 8x CD player. The case should have
- 2 stereo mics on the upper corners and two speakers along the sides.
- Create software that would allow the the Falcon to act as a video
- recorder, speaker phone, internet browser (utilizing a 60 or 64 column
- display, to make it easier on the eyes), netphone that would allow
- multiple falcons in a building connected by LAN or on the internet to
- allow intercom functions and voice mail services. Lastly the MFP serial
- port inside could be connected to an infra-red tranceiver that would
- allow wireless printing, keyboarding and jagpading, along with the
- ability to beam data to laptop, Newton and Sharp PDA's. Most of these
- changes would be simple enhancements to the MK-X case. There would be
- software to control the CD-Player and Video/Audio record/playback using
- the jagpad. The Video Input module would also contain a television and
- FM radio tuner inside a small box that would connect to the DSP port.
- 1/8 earphone jacks would allow the connection of the 3 other stereo outs
- to self powered speakers or stereo receiver. This would aid in true
- theatre sound reproduction. The company that creates the film format
- standard for the Falcon would profit greatly. The video conferencing
- software would support the connection of a Connectix QuikCam, the DSP
- Entertainment Block (discribed above), the Expose, or Matrix digitizers.
- Compression of audio would allow hours of music to be recorded on the
- 100meg Zip disk. Timers could be created to automatically record your
- favorite radio or video shows onto Zip. The infra-red would support pc
- style keyboards as well as upto 6 wireless jagpads. No other computer
- system has been sold or configured as a Digital Tape Recorder/Internet
- Browser/Caller ID/Local Telephone/Internet Telephone&Fax/Answering
- Machine for fax, voice, data, video conference. A separate line would
- be suggested so that Falcon users would be able to utilize their
- machines as a universal communication device. It would be great to
- enhance the system so that 4 megs of ST RAM was on the motherboard and 2
- 72 pin s/dimms would be available for Fast 32 bit ram. A gig 2.5 inch
- ide drive would supply Virtual Memory until the Fast ram was utilized.
- Since the system would come with 4 megs or ST Ram, the cost should be
- kept low. No Floppy would be on the system since for multimedia
- requires higher capacity. The Zip would be the new standard "floppy"
- The high end users could have their system configured with a recordable
- CD for use with Cubase Audio and for Digitizing compressed movies. In
- the future DVD drives would replace the CD drives.
-
- Well, that's it. What do you guys think. It's not like I'm asking for
- much. One thing at a time such as:
-
-
- 1. Film Format utilizing the DSP for high compression user selectable.
- 2. Video Conferencing with Mac QuickCam via LAN port or PC via parallel.
- 3. Internet/LAN Telephony/Answering Machine.
- 4. Java compatible Web Browser.
- 5. Support for CD-Player using JagPad.
- 6. Create TV/FM DSP Block (DES: DSP Entertainment System).
- 7. Create Infra-Red transceiver via MFP serial.
- 8. Having Kengsington or Atari create infra-red JagPads.
- 9. Create top casing with Microphone, Speaker, Infra-red
- tranceiver additions to case.
- All should run under MiNT. This system would beat the Pippin since
- it can record music, video, film, e-mail, audio messages, faxes,
- and data to the Zip drive. This would be the first Digital
- Video Answering Machine. That actually should be the easiest since
- it would work with current falcons with a zip and a Quik Cam.
-
- The technology is already there. We would just have to create the
- software.
-
- Sorry for all my ranting, I just would like my Falcon to be more useful
- than it currently is. The pictures of the MK-X casing look great. I
- would love to have my Falcon recased with that to sit above my VCRs.
- The CD and the Zip should be one above the other, right where the floppy
- currently is. The other drive bay could remain for a CD-Recorder or
- something. We should try to make drivers for most Mac peripherals since
- we have the SCSI and LAN (RS422) ports. Ethernet could be available
- through SCSI or parallel adapters for Mac and PC. I would love to be
- able to use PIM like the Atari one or Harlekin to transfer or receive
- scheduling data from my Netwon. Later on as we sell these through
- infomercials we can create an interface to DSS (Digital Satellite)
- Receivers to allow realtime capture of weather, map and television data
- to the DSP for processing and display.
